How many teams does a membership entitle us to have?
The Odyssey membership for both national and NY State is issued for the school building – not to an individual team.
Depending on the make up of your building you can have a minimum of 5 teams – each of which must work on a different long-term problem. The scenarios below explain it a little further.
K-5 building: May have as many primary teams (students K-2) solving the Primary Problem as it wishes and have 5 teams (members up to and including 5th graders) – each of which must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 1
K-6 building: May have as many primary teams (students K-2) solving the Primary Problem as it wishes and have 5 teams (members up to and including 5th graders) – each of which must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 1.
This school may have 5 additional teams (each of which must have at least one 6th grader) and each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 2.
K-8 building: May have as many primary teams (students K-2) solving he Primary Problem as it wishes and have 5 teams (members up to and including 5th graders) – each of which must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 1.
This school may have 5 additional teams (each of which must have at least one 6th, 7th or 8th grader) and each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 2.
K-12 building: May have as many primary teams (students K-2) solving the Primary Problem as it wishes and have 5 teams (members up to and including 5th graders) – each of which must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 1.
This school may have 5 additional teams (each of which must have at least one 6th, 7th or 8th grader) and each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 2.
The school may also have 5 additional teams (each of which must have at least one 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade student) and each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 3.
Grades 5-8 building: May have 5 teams of 5th graders, each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division I
This school may have 5 additional teams (each of which must have at least one 6th, 7th or 8th grader) and each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 2.
Grades 6-8 building: May have 5 teams and each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 2.
Grades 9-12 building: May have 5 teams and each team must solve a different long-term problem. These teams would compete in Division 3.
If, in any division, two teams in the school building wish to solve the same long-term problem, then you would need to obtain a second national and NY State membership.
